What to Expect From PRP Microneedling: The Process Explained

Have you heard of PRP microneedling? If not, get ready to get excited! This relatively new skincare procedure is taking the world of beauty by storm.

But what is it? And why is the word needle in the name?

We promise there's nothing to worry about. Microneedling is perfectly painless and can take years off your age - erasing fine lines, smoothing wrinkles, and banishing scars and discoloration. It can even improve elasticity and tone.

And, best of all, it's an FDA approved treatment.

Keep reading to learn all about this revolutionary new skincare technology, including what to expect during your PRP facial. And, get ready to look and feel your very best!

How Does PRP Microneedling Work?

The SkinePen used during PRP Microneedling treatments is a small, lightweight device used to create minuscule micro-injuries to the treatment area. This stimulates the body's production of elastin and collagen, two of the most important natural compounds when it comes to a healthy and youthful complexion.

During the procedure, micro-channels are also created. These allow the "growth factors" applied to your face - PRP or platelet-rich plasma to be reabsorbed naturally.

And, while this might sound a bit intimidating, we can promise you - it's a completely pain-free procedure. And, the "needles" used are so small that you can barely see them with the naked eye!

The micro injuries and channels created during your facial will also stimulate the body's natural process of healing and self-repair. This helps the treated area produce new skin cells, growing brand new skin that feels softer and more voluminous, and looks years younger. PRP can also help to thicken the skin, restoring elasticity, fullness, and glow.

Because microneedling helps the body build new cells, it can also be helpful when used on stretch marks, more severe scarring, and deep discoloration.

Not sure if you're a good candidate for a PRP facial? Not to worry - the Renaissance Med Spa team is happy to help. We offer free consultations and employ a highly-trained staff of aesthetic experts!

What to Expect During Your Treatment

A topical numbing cream will be applied. This step takes around 35 minutes, as the anesthetic works its way down into your skin.

Before the technician can begin microneedling with PRP, they'll need to draw a small vial of blood. The blood will be removed by the Doctor or Nurse. Then, the blood will separated into three parts - reed blood cells, platelet-rich plasma, and platelet-poor plasma. The platelet-rich plasma - PRP, will be saved for later.

Once the target treatment area is totally numb, a non-irritating and highly hydrating product or serum like hyaluronic acid will be applied. As soon as this is fully absorbed, your PRP treatment will begin.

Your body's own natural platelet-rich plasma will next be applied to the treatment area. And, your technician will then use the SkinPen to introduce the product deep into your skin, where it can do the most good. This part of the procedure will likely take around 30-45 minutes.

Then, you're ready to go!

Microneedling with PRP might cost less than you expect, especially when compared to more invasive procedures like plastic surgery. And, it won't bring on any additional expenses, like time missed from work!

Aftercare and Followup

While most people find PRP facials perfectly painless, there are a few possible after-effects to watch out for. For example, you may notice light bruising around the treatment area. This is perfectly normal!

It is also common to experience slight swelling, redness, or stinging - similar to a sunburn. Some mild peeling two to four-days post-procedure is totally normal, as well.

But, don't worry! Most people resume their normal daily activities within 24 hours of their treatment.

Wondering what type of results you might see after your procedure? In some cases, microneedling with PRP before and after pictures look like night and day.

You might notice an immediate improvement in the appearance of acne scars, enlarged pores, fine lines and wrinkles, and laxity in the skin. And, most people report a smoother, firmer, and more toned look overall.

Other microneedling with PRP benefits include fuller and more radiant looking skin, with long-term results, and in some cases, permanent improvement. This is especially true if you commit to a PRP routine, scheduling a series of three to six appointments with two-week intervals in between.

Best of all, your skin will continue to improve all on its own for up to six months after treatment, while your body continues to generate new cells.
