Common Applications for Botox Aside From Wrinkle Improvement

botox

Botox is one of the many medical treatments offered at medical spas and dermatologist practices to help make the skin look better. It's the most popular non-surgical treatment, with more than 7.23 million botox procedure performed in America in 2017 alone.

Botox is used for a variety of reasons, including wrinkle improvement, reducing crows feet, frown line treatment, and all around facial rejuvenation. Aside from those common applications, here are some others things botox can be used for.

Managing acne

Believe it or not, Botox can actually curb the oil production in your face, reducing your breakouts. Botox cannot completely cure acne, but small amounts can superficially help reduce the oil production in your face. This works best when paired with other dermatology medications.

Stop migraines

Experts do not completely understand why botox helps reduce migraines, but the theory is that it blocks the pain signals sent to the brain and that it relaxes the muscles in the head so they aren't as sensitive to pain. The botox would be applied to the temples, forehead, and scalp. This, again, is not incredibly effective on its own. It's only appropriate for patients who have frequent migraines and aren't improving with other traditional medications.

Reduce excessive sweating

Botox can actually help reduce excessive sweating too. It works similarly to the way it prevents migraines in that Botox works on the muscles. It prevents the message from your nerves from getting to your sweat glands. If the sweat gland doesn't get the signal, then it doesn't produce sweat. This means there will be no sweat or wetness in that area. This works well for patients diagnosed with hyperhidrosis.

Smooth your neck

Finally, botox can help smooth out your neck too. Tiny amounts of Botox are injected into the muscles all around the neck. When the muscles relax, the skin looks significantly smoother. It kind of acts like a non-surgical facelift, except that it only lasts for a few months.

Botox can be used for a variety of different things. It's important, though, to sit down with a doctor to discuss just what's right for you in terms of enhancing your appearance.
